Add photos and the photo rights agreement

Add your photos to an ATIS page, tell us about the people in them, and understand the licence you give ATIS.

Body

Any member can add photos to a page on ATIS, such as a place, an attraction, or a business, or to a story. Photos are credited to you and checked by a person before they appear.

  1. Sign in and make sure you have a profile. See Set up your public profile.
  2. On the page, select Add a photo.
  3. Choose your photos. The form shows how many you can send at once and which file types it accepts.
  4. Add a Caption (optional) to each photo.
  5. Under People in this photo, choose one answer for each photo: Not applicable, No one can be recognised, People can be recognised, and they agreed, or People can be recognised, and I did not ask them.
  6. Tick the box to confirm that you took the photos or hold the rights and accept the photo rights agreement, then select Submit photos.

What the photo rights agreement means

  • The photo stays yours. You give ATIS a non-exclusive licence, so you may also publish it anywhere else.
  • Community licence, for any member: ATIS may show the photo on its website and apps, and in its own newsletter and social posts about the place. It is unpaid.
  • Contributor licence, for an active field contributor: the same, plus ATIS's own marketing. It is paid for each accepted photo.
  • Photo request licence, for an answer to a photo request: the same as the contributor licence, paid at the request's price. An extended request may also allow ATIS to share the photo with the partners the request names. Whether extended requests are offered: Owner to confirm.
  • The licence is recorded when the photo is accepted and never changes afterwards. The full text is the photo rights agreement, linked on the form.

Good to know

  • If someone can be recognised and did not agree, or you did not ask, ATIS uses the photo on its website and apps only, never in publicity.
  • Take special care with women, children, and officials. Never photograph checkpoints, or military or police sites.
  • Location data and camera details are removed from every photo.
  • Each photo is reviewed on its own. We may accept some and decline others, with a reason.
