When a trip cannot go ahead

Conditions in Afghanistan can change quickly. Before any ATIS trip starts, ATIS decides whether it can go ahead safely. Your safety comes first: no route is worth a risk.

The go/no-go review

Before departure, a member of ATIS staff with the authority to decide reviews security and the roads on your route, and records a decision: go or no-go. A no-go is always recorded with the reason. When the review takes place before the start date: Owner to confirm.

A trip starts only when all three are true:

• the booking is Paid in full;
• every supplier on the trip, such as drivers, guides, and places to stay, has confirmed;
• a go decision is recorded.

If the answer is no-go

• We send you a message at once, and your booking page says that we will contact you. We then contact you on WhatsApp or by email and explain why.
• Nothing changes on your booking until you decide. Meanwhile we send no balance invoice and no pre-departure reminder.
• The choices we offer come from the cancellation and refund policy, for example a different date, a different route of a similar standard, or a refund. The exact choices and amounts: Owner to confirm.
• If the booking is cancelled, it shows Cancelled, and its unpaid invoices are cancelled. When money has been returned to you, it shows Refunded.

If a group departure is cancelled

A group departure runs once enough travellers have booked, and we tell you when it is Guaranteed. If we have to cancel a departure, for example because too few travellers booked or for safety, we tell everyone booked on it and offer another date or a refund under the policy.

Events outside anyone's control

Borders, airports, or roads may close, or other events may stop a trip. What is refunded in that case, and how costs already paid to suppliers are handled: Owner to confirm.

If a trip is cut short

If ATIS ends a trip early for safety, what is refunded for the part not delivered: Owner to confirm.

Good to know

• The version of the cancellation and refund policy in force when you booked is the one that applies.
• Travel insurance covers things the policy does not. We recommend it for every trip.
