Become a contributor and earn

Apply to become a paid ATIS field contributor, accept the terms, and learn how earnings and payments work.

Field contributors photograph and check the places ATIS covers. Any member can share photos for free; field contributors are paid a fixed amount for each photo, fact, or story we accept. You must be at least 18.

  1. Sign in and create a profile if you do not have one. See Set up your public profile.
  2. Open Field contributor from your account menu.
  3. Fill in Languages you can contribute in, your home area, and Why would you like to contribute?
  4. Tick "I have read and accept the contributor terms and the photo rights agreement." and select Apply.
  5. Wait for our decision. We send you a message, and your status changes from Applied to Active.
  6. When you are active, open Payout details and enter your legal name, country, payout method, and account details.

How earnings work

  • Each accepted item earns one fixed amount: the rate on the day it is accepted, or the price on the photo request it answers. The amount never changes afterwards, even if rates change.
  • The rates for a photo, a fact, and a story, and how many photos of one submission are paid: Owner to confirm.
  • Earnings are counted in US dollars. Your statement on your contributor page lists every earning and payment.
  • A new earning is Pending for a hold period (Owner to confirm), then Payable, then Paid. Work that turns out to be copied, invented, or paid for by its subject is Withheld. We tell you, and we restore it if we were wrong.

How payment works

  • We pay once your payable balance reaches the minimum payment: Owner to confirm.
  • Methods: Hawala, Mobile money, Bank transfer, or Cash. Which ones are offered at launch: Owner to confirm.
  • ATIS staff make and record each payment. You get a message with the amount and the transfer reference. A payment in another currency uses that day's exchange rate, recorded with the payment.
  • When payments begin in each country: Owner to confirm.
  • Your payout details are encrypted. Only the staff who make payments can read them, and every read is recorded.

Good to know

  • If the contributor terms change and ask you to accept them again, new work earns nothing until you select Accept the terms on your contributor page.
  • After several of your photos are accepted, we may invite you to apply.
